GeoCelebration of Dr. Jim Graham - November 15, 2019

A celebration was held in honour of Dr. Jim Graham for the profound impact he has had on the geotechnical engineering community in Manitoba, across Canada, and around the world. The event was well-attended with over 100 attendees including family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Graham from across North America and overseas.

During the festivities, several speakers had the opportunity to share their stories of Dr. Graham; including Dr. Rob Kenyon representing CGS National, Dr. Jack Crooks (Dr. Graham’s first graduate student), Dr. Jim Oswell, Dr. David Kurz (Dr. Graham’s last graduate student), and Mr. Ken Skaftfeld who wrapped up the ceremonies with a resounding rendition of Happy Birthday in honour of Dr. Graham’s birthday.  The evening was then capped off with Dr. Graham addressing the audience with a talk entitled “Me, Us, You” where he encouraged everyone, especially our younger members, to make the most of opportunities as they arise and not to be afraid to step outside of their comfort zone.
